 Japanese: State Alchemist Qualification Exam English: The Alchemy Exam Airdates Japan: November 08, 2003 USA: December 11, 2004 UK: Unknown Australia: Unknown Synopsis: Ed + Al are at Roys office they have to do their own study so Roy tells them Tucker would be a good person to train under as 'Tucker practically wrote the book of bringing things to life' Tucker created a Chimera that could speak english. At Tucker's house Ed gets 'dogged' literally by Alexander the Tucker's dog. Tucker has a little girl called Nina. They are told the exam will be big. They get to use his reference library much to Ed's delight. Nina doesn't really understand about Al being in armour. The boys do tons of revision before having a little fun in the snow. Ed does some Alchemy for Nina (a crown of flowers) when Hughes arrives at the house coming for Ed. It's the lil guys birthday (Hughes is on the investigation team) he takes the whole team for a birthday dinner at his house. At the Hughes house they meet Gracia (Mrs Hughes) she is pregnant and is due any day. Ed freaks out XD. They have the birthday dinner but Gracia starts to have the baby so Hughes goes off to get a doctor, as it's throwing it down with snow, leaving the kids in charge. They get some hot water to help keep Gracia calm. The kids are still freaking out :p the water goes cold so Ed manages to make the water warm...without using an Alchemy circle.... The baby comes and more freaking out. Hughes is back crying cause he's happy and Ed is now too. Ed + Al talk about babies + mums but this ends up upsetting Al and he cries. The boys do more revision and talk about how did Ed do the water without the circle. D-Day (Exam Day) is fast approaching there is to be a Written Test, Interview + Practical and only 1 or 2 people are taken on each year! D-Day arrives they take the written test. Ed is depressed as he didn't finish all of the paper. However in Roy's office we find out both boys passed. Roy visits them but he arrives and tells Al he must drop out because he will have to reveal his past. Ed says he will continue on for Al to make things right. Ed goes to the interview and there is a 3 legged chair which only people with the gift can sit on. Ed manages to sit on it so it balances. He is questioned and once again passes. Then comes the practicals. Nina gives him a picture with a circle on it + their lil 'team'. The military have given the candidates natural resources to do what they see fit to impress them. The first guy does a tower but uses all his energy up into the bargin. The second guy does a paper blimp but this bursts and goes into the tower causing it to start to collapse. Ed rushes forward puts his hands together and once again does Alchemy without a circle it turns the blimp + all the falling rocks/tower into falling petals. Roy seems impressed. "Alchemy without Circles" and then he is pronounced by Fuhrer King Bradley that Ed is the Alchemist they are taking on this year. Ed, Al and Nina walk back over a bridge and Ed says that this is a big turning point for them.
