Japanese: Flame The Guardian's Soul English: Soul of the Guardian Airdates Japan: February 21, 2004 USA: March 26, 2005 UK: Unknown Australia: Unknown Synopsis: Ed feels unoriginal for placing Al's soul in armour and knew that 48 was armour only due to the fact the way he moved/sparred with Ed. 48 was a condemned prisioner thus meaning Ed's theory was right. 48 tells Ed he was The Slicer a Serial Killer and goes on to say how he thinks he's immortal now but Ed tells him about the Blood Seal and if it's broken it's all over. The fight then continues and Ed gets a tweak in his automail with it being lighter (and Winry forgetting to put a bolt back in) it can be damaged more easier. He then gets a wound on his other arm. He's starting to get tired. Slicer tells Ed that his companion is taking care of Al but Ed isn't worried (knowing Al is the same). Al is thrashing 66 and knocks his block off literally! He like Slicer was a condemned prisoner and was Barry the Butcher/Chopper the guy who kidnapped Winry. Al recognises this but isn't worried which annoys Barry that Al isn't afraid of him but soon comes to realise that Al is fleshless too. Armstrong questions Block and Ross who then tell him that the boys must have gone to Lab 5. Ed continues to fight against Slicer his automail being tweaking again. Ed uses alc to make a spear but it is destroyed. Ed then shouts to Al to attack thus getting Slicer to turn around as we see Al behind but it turns out to be a transmutated statue allowing Ed to cut the head off the body but not destroying the seal. Ed then discovers that the body can move on it's own and that it has another soul attatched. Ed gets another would to his side and it is revealed the 2 souls are brothers (head being older, body the younger) that is what made the Slicers so effective killers. The body attacks again and Ed suddenly thinks of Scar's way of 'killing' and he is then seen. He does to the body what Scar did to Al - a partial transmutation of just breaking down process but not rebuilding (stopping at Stage 2) The older Slicer then admits Ed has won and wants him to destroy them both but Ed won't as he would have to admit they didn't exist as humans as he would have to admit the same about Al and he cannot do that. Barry is getting hammered again. Al tells Barry that Ed is his brother and how Ed nearly killed himself to save his soul. Barry then starts to twist the tale saying Al is fake and how Ed tinkered with his emotions. Back inside Ed tells the Slicers they are still living and real which amuses the older brother. Ourside Al and Barry still argue over the 'realism' of Al who being to doubt if his past memories are true. He remember when Ed tried to tell him something but couldn't. The Episode ends with the Slicers laughing and Al standing outside deep in thought.
