 Japanese: The Coal Mine Town English: The Mining Town Release Dates Japan: January 2002 (Novel Release) USA: May 3rd, 2005 UK: Unknown Australia: Unknown Synopsis: The Youswell Coal Mines, everything is run down. The boys meet a kid called Khayal, his dad runs the inn, the cost for 1 nights stay inc food for 2 is 200k!. Ed reveals himself as an Alchemist and eventually gets kicked out when it is revealed he is a State Alchemist. The people hate the military as Lieutenant Yoki who is in charge of the area is a low life and under paying the people yet demanding high taxes. Al sneaks outside and tells Ed this. Yoki then turns up demanding his late taxes and when he says he'll lower the wages even more Khayal snaps and throws his cloth at Yoki. Khayal is then hit and sends his guard to hurt the boy with his sword. Ed comes in and stops the guard. Ed tells Yoki who he is and leaves with him. When eating a very fine meal at Yoki's puffed up mansion Ed is given a bribe by Yoki to put in a good word at Central. When Ed is going to bed Yoki tells one of his guards to burn the inn down. Ed comes into town next day to see the place has been burnt. Khayal asks Ed to make gold to help them but he refuses as it is illegal not to mention it would get taken in taxes. When Ed and Al are alone Ed makes some gold form the bribe. He then wants to buy the mines from Yoki. He tells Yoki since making gold is illegal could he do a document saying that he gave them Ed for free so the gold doesn't appear on any of the books and he agrees. Later Ed finds Khayal and most of the towns folk. He shows them the documents that he owns the place and will sell them to him for the 200k that it would have cost for the night/meals in the inn. Yoki arrives annoyed as the Gold has turned back to normal rocks. (Ed changed it before he left Yoki's) Ed says he will tell the higher ups about the corruption. |
